January. New Year Resolutions. Goals. Are you tired of all these articles telling you what you already know?
Could we all get healthier…yes. Should most of us lose a couple of LB’s…. probably. But everyone tells you that you should do these things, but no one tells you how. The “how” is usually such a dramatic life change that you will probably only do for a few days or a couple of weeks at max.
That’s why you start off January by making your bed.
According to U.S. Navy Admiral William H. McRaven “If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. And by the end of the day that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.”
Which moves on to our next point of creating a habit. Did you know that making your bed every day creates a habit? In Charles Duhigg’s book, The Power of Habit, he writes, “It’s not that a family meal or a tidy bed causes better grades or less frivolous spending. But somehow those initial shifts start chain reactions that help other good habits take hold.
It’s like when you start exercising regularly that you start craving good food instead of junk food. Or you start making a conscious effort to walk around the office instead of sending an email.
For 5 straight days, make it an extra effort to make your bed each morning. Do you already make your bed every morning, or need a challenge for week 2? We created a list of easy 5-day challenges for you to pick and choose from. After 5 days you might just realize that you love what you are doing, and you will see a habit start to form. Give it a try, what do you have to lose?
We want YOU to join our Facebook group, All Things Organized, and participate in the fun 5-day challenges! Each week YOU will have a new challenge and we want to know what you choose and if it is something you plan to ditch or something you have come to enjoy.
